Canyon De Chelly was the home to a group of early Native Americans that built dwellings on the floor of the canyon and on ledges in the sides of the cliffs. The tour, led by Navajo guides, follows a river through the bottom of the canyon for views of the ruins and rock art paintings.
Even if there were no ruins the trip through the canyon is punctuated by the beauty of the canyon. The colors in the cliff rising behind green trees to the cloud studded blue skies was worth the ride by itself.
