"What is your gift?" the old man ask the boy,
the boy looked at the old man wondering what his ploy,
And the old man said "we all have a gift do you know what's yours?"
And the boy looked at the old man still wondering and unsure.
"We all have a gift, something we do well, sometimes the best,
when you find it and use it right maybe better than the rest."
The boy still didn't answer not knowing what to say,
what is he talking about, on his face a look of dismay.
"Let me tell you a story," the old man said,
"about a boy about your age, a story I once read.
Actually it's about most young boys, most boys are the same,
as they go through life, see what others do, as they play the game."
"You see there was this boy who tried to excel at all he did,
always tried to do everything better than every other kid.
Now it's a good thing to try to do things just as good as you can,
to be the one who jumped the farthest, or the fastest that ran."
"But as hard as the boy tried," the old man continued the tale,
"he was not always the best and thought that he did fail."
Said the boy "Well didn't he,if that's what he tried to do?"
"Well no," said the old man, "can't you see that too?"
"Being the best at everything is so very hard you see,
but being the best at one thing can make you the best there can be."
"You only fail when you can't see where your limits lie,
like jumping off a cliff knowing that you can't fly."
"I think I understand now," to the old man said the boy,
"To try to win at everything may never bring you joy."
"I think you have the idea now and remember because it's true,
the one that can make you the unhappiest may be only you."
"Find out what you can do and what you like the best,
and concentrate on those things put them to the test.
For that will help to bring you joy and help your life be good,
knowing that you did what you do best and did it the best you could."
